I was extremely lucky to have Carina Tian from Design4Space as my ID for renovation of my resale flat and I must say, it far exceeded my expectations, and she sure go above and beyond her job scope. This is a long and detailed review as I want to ensure anyone reading this to be aware of all her merits. Initial meet up / quotation phase We presented our requirements to many IDs prior to meeting her and she is the only one that does not outright say impossible or present us with solutions that are “ugly”. Instead she will present alternatives while not comprising the asthetics. Isn’t the type that quote you fast and cheap with intention of multiple VOs later. She did let us know straight up our requirements does not fit within our budget. Her quotation is the most detailed amongst other IDs and not a single requirement mentioned during the 4 hours initial meeting was missed. Design Phase Good design ideas while been practical. She will listen to you but remind you it may not be practical for daily usage or cleaning or for future (say if got kids). We tweak the design multiple times and the update on the 3d drawings were prompt and representative of what was discussed. Initially, we were enforcing her to use certain colours but after seeing that she creates another 3d drawing with her proposed colours and design; we gave her the free rein to design as it not only aligned with the vibe we intended but way nicer. She accompanied us in all our shopping trips for which include tiles, laminate, vinyl, household appliances (lighting, fans, etc), toiletries and even furniture in Johor. It should be noted that just for tiles, we went to at least 4 places and she didn’t show any signs of frustration at all. What top it off is she will try to negotiate with the vendors on discount and in some instances, I actually felt sorry for those vendors. Even if there is no price reduction, she will fight for perks like longer warranty, free gifts etc. She was sweet to us as well. We saw an ornament when shopping and really like it but didn’t purchase due to it been too expensive. She secretly bought it and ship to our new house. Execution / Project Management Basically, she treats our house as her baby. There is no need any monitoring from me at all, no hand holding required. She is constantly on site (which is something I think is very important when managing a project) to instruct the workers, evaluate work done prior and resolve / discuss issues if any. I had seen her “lecturing” the workers before due to them not meeting her requirements, even threaten not to use them if similar incident happen again. Her experience in this field also helps contribute to her detailed inspection of those carpentry, tiling, vinyl, painting done, even up to the finest defect, she is able to spot and would remedy it (when I think it’s actually not a big deal). A perfectionist for sure. Many instances, I saw her throwing my own personal cardboard boxes, and garbage from stuff that I bought online. It got her all dusty and sweaty and I had to stop her from doing that. In addition, she even bought cleaning equipment including a broom and started sweeping. For every project, there are mistakes, and it’s her effort to resolve asap that is impressive. For instance, during a random check, I detected that a wrong wall was painted and informed her straight away. Within 20 mins, I saw the paint vendor right at my door apologizing and lecturing the painters and giving very detailed instructions again and finally reporting to Carina progress, and what was done etc. The follow up from some of the vendors in Johor where we purchase our furniture was really bad. Some would take one day to respond and worst when delivered, they are not working. She handled all that without any intervention from us. In summary, the entire renovation experience was smooth sailing, and we were very satisfied with the results. Highly recommend Carina due to her professionalism, efficiency, attention to details and service orientated.
