“Design 4 Space | ID Daryl Ang”
We had met between 10 to 13 renovation ID firms before settling down with Design 4 Space. ID Daryl Ang from TradeHub 21 branch has turned our run down 5-room resales HDB flat into a cozy home within timeline and budget. It has been a fruitful journey as we learnt many new things during the renovation as Daryl would share and discuss details that matter to us. We are thankful for his diligence and patience to deliver what we had requested on site. We have since moved in for 4 months now and Daryl has checked on us twice to follow up if there was any new defects found after moving in.
Renovation works involved: Hacking of walls & floor, rescreeding & leveling of new floor for whole unit, rebuilding of new walls, waterproofing works at toilets & kitchen, laying of floor tiles for whole unit, laying of wall tiles for toilets & kitchen, installation of plaster ceiling for whole unit, replacement of all doors & door frames, replacement of all casement windows, replacement of all electrical wiring, installation of lightings & electrical appliances, replacement of all water supply pipes & installation of additional discharge pipes, installation of sanitary fittings, full carpentry works at kitchen, living room & 3 bedrooms using Low Formaldehyde EcoPlywood, installation of Dekton counter top & backsplash for kitchen worktop.

Design
We had ideas and listed out our design intentions before meeting our ID. Many ID we met before Daryl, were some how reluctant to take up our job as we to them classified as difficult customers. We had done our homeworks well, up to the level of confirming materials/products and colours prior meeting any ID. Hence, when we shared the details of our design intentions and explained why we prepared such details, most of the IDs were shocked and quoted us in high price. When we met Daryl, we was shocked to see our lists but very soon he was happy to send us a quote. He explained that we were an easy customer as we knew what we want & helped him to save times in preparation works. We have skipped the complex steps for material selections like most of the home owners did with their ID after confirming the quotation.
Workmanship
Discussions were done on site for important details like tiles layout, site marking for electrical points/ water points/ carpentry works and confirming the dimension of all build in electrical appliances, etc. Hence, the potential hiccups was minimised. Site supervision was done professionally & we did visit the site every 2-3 days during the renovation to check on quality of works. With the collective efforts, the workmanship was well controlled and good.
Service
Good service started from our first meeting by capturing our requirements right. Delivered what spelled out in the contracts without short-changing and did not overcharge us when there was a variation order. Many contractors would charge at higher price whenever there was a variation order as they normally quoted lower in the original package and use variation order to generate more profits. This was not the case for Daryl.
During the renovation, Daryl handled many complain calls daily from a couple of neighbours due to the noise generated during the approved working hours. I was very impressed by his patience and calmness when I literally heard my anonymous neighbour shouting across the phone.
Daryl sent site updates with photos and videos every alternate day to inform us about the site progress. He would give us sufficient notice to arrange delivery for items that we purchased directly from suppliers, hence it doesn’t affect the installation works. Project management was well done on site as the whole renovation was done within the timeline and budget.
Value for Money
It’s definately a good value for money based on the quality of works & services provided. We have done quite extensive of carpentry works and decided to upgrade our carpentry with low formaldehyde EcoPlywood that was exclusive to Design 4 Space in Singapore. This is very important to us as 2 of our household members have sensitive airways. There was almost zero glue smell when all the carpentry works were installed on site & it was proven that our money were well spent.
